1. Use of the suffixes 'er' and 'est' in case of adjectives which have a single syllable (monosyllabic).
2. Use of the prefixes 'more' and the 'most' in case of adjectives which have more than one syllable (multi-syllabic or polysyllabic).
You will find that Shakespeare had, by and large, followed these principles in choosing his superlatives.
What are the exceptions?
