For the last few months, I have been typing abc2midi notations and converting them into mid-wav-mp3 files and uploading them to my blog http://museyb.blogspot.com.
Here is a beautiful realistic article on middle-aging.
http://voices.yahoo.com/anti-aging-men-avoid-looking-unnecessarily-2561367.html?cat=69, which is worth reading, not only for fitness zealots, but also for vocabulary yearners.
Here are some of the words I found in the essay, which I myself have been tempted to add to my passive vocabulary to start with, to be followed up by their admission into the active vocabulary.
blabberheaded coot : one who speaks incessantly.
burrito : an unleavened bread/pan cake.
comb-over : combing hair over to cover a bald head.
mousse : A foam containing special chemicals, used for styling
hair.
nogger : a stupid person.
paunch : belly.
pigging: lying down like a pig.
snarky : rudely sarcastic (in the context of the essay).
toofer : a two-in-one offer.
toupee : a small hairpiece to cover partial baldness.
The article is very much focused to its objective of explaining methods of overcoming the middle-age blues, albeit it has
one or two elements of didactics.
I envy the author Mr. Christopher Cudworth, because I do not have his vocabulary.
I am unable to resist my own temptation of writing something on cosmetic appearances:
This is a memorable Sanskrit verse:
kEyUra vibhUshayanti purusham hArA na candrOjvalA
na snAnam na vilEpanam na kusumam nA lankritA murdhajA
vANyEkA samalankarOti purusham yA sanskritA dhAyatE
kE ankE khalu bhUshaNAni satatam vAg bhUshaNam, bhUshaNam.
Brief gist: Glowing ornaments do not enhance the appearance of a person. Not perfume baths. Not cosmetic creams. Not flowers. Not braids and plaits of hair locks. Clean and gentle language alone can decorate a person. Speech is the best ornament for a person.
This verse was authored in 8th Century CE (circa). This verse is likely to become an obsolete and worn-out coin today. Thousands of newspapers and TV channels today, spend their time on making people to spend their money on aping celebrities like Lady Gaga.
Our goal, anyway, is 'vocabulary'.
